Obama Signs Expanded Violence Agianst Women Act

Obama signs expanded Violence against Women Act

On Thursday, February 28, President Obama signs the Violence against Women Act with Congress, which is a legislation that expanded the law that will help afford domestic protection for gay, lesbian, and transgender victims as well as Native Americans and undocumented immigrants. The act is not only for women, men are covered under the law, but it's called the Violence against Women Act because women are disproportionally victims in domestic violence. It was first enacted in 1944 to aid the victims of domestic violence that offers programs for survivors and criminal system justice to them and the community. This act will help identify dating violence and crimes of domestic violence including the funding or rape crisis.
The article captures a sense of closure towards the victims and survivors of domestic violence. With Obama signing the expansion of this act, it will create a way to help put a stop to domestic violence and force society to become aware of the damages of this crisis to the community. This might cause the new measures closed a loophole for Native American women, whose non-native partners were often immune from prosecution because tribal police would not arrest non-Native men and local police would not make arrests on Indian reservations.
The people of the United States should be aware of this event because it will create awareness to this issue and bring it to an end. If the people are not aware, it can create more domestic violence and more deaths in America and no one would take responsibility for the crimes that they have done. I believe that all should know about this act because it can change the lives of millions and eventually billions. It will help all women’s organizations and advocates, law enforcement officials, tribal leaders and domestic violence survivors and it will change the states as we know it.
